Working hard behind the schenes
Runners around the world are anxiously waiting to hear more details of the different events taking place May 19th. Helsinki City Running Day is organized by Finnish Athletics Federation and three sports clubs: Helsingin Kisa-Veikot, Helsingin Poliisivoimailijat and Viipurin Urheilijat. The specific details will be launched as soon as they are approved by officials. This way we avoid letting runners down with false information and serve the runners the best. Each event page is updated as information is validated.
So far confirmed:
Helsinki City Marathon (HCM) route is kept about the same than in the previous 3 years. The start takes place at the statue of the legend Paavo Nurmi. The route is beautiful, shows the best sides of the Scandinavian nature and takes the runners into the city of Helsinki. The route has received excellent feedback in previous years.
Helsinki City Marathon Relay is a new event connected with the marathon. Marathon Relay takes uses the same route than HCM. Relay exchange areas are located on the side of the marathon route.
Sportyfeel Helsinki City Run Half Marathon (HCR) will have a totally new route 2018. It will also join the marathon route for the main part of the race added with a short loop at the beautiful Central Park of Helsinki. This way HCR will change into more urban route and is able to show the most beautiful parts of Helsinki to the runners.
Helsinki City 5 Street Run route goes along the marathon route. Childrens’ Chiquita Minimarathon route is kept the same than 2017 starting from the Eläintarha Athletics Field and finishing at Telia 5 G Arena.
The finish line of all events is at the Telia 5G Arena. All routes are measured by the AIMS approved measurer. HCM and HCR are AIMS member events.
The exact routes and schedules are planned in close co-operation with the city officials and police. All routes, route maps and times are confirmed after the green light has been received from the officials.
